L5R-- Datsue-ba by aprillee L5R-- Datsue-ba by aprillee
Copyright 2007 AEG, but the artist (me) is allowed by contract to use art in portfolios and for promotion and for selling prints. This artwork was done for the LEGEND OF THE FIVE RINGS CCG. She is a a fun mix of creepy and beautiful--a woman who is alluring because she wears the skin of others! This piece was drawn and painted in Photoshop.

Well, what can i say to the world well-known April Lee ? ? I've downloaded a lot of your pieces from the web.

Nice colours and good expression, one question April: The woman belong to the Spider Clan or that is just coincidence ?

If you got time it will be an honor (yes, a scorpion talking about honor) to me if you check some of my pieces and leave a comment. In case if you got time, obviously.

Well, we just get the bare-bones of a description for the art assignments. I was told to put spider webs on her kimono and have her beautiful, but creepy, wearing someone else's skin... That's it. We don't get stats or other details, often the title is not decided. Now, it may be that the designers or writers (many contribute to the art descriptions--it depends on how they're working it at the time) wanted some spider clan reference. It may mean something or it may mean that they meant things to be one way but ended up changing things... so it's difficult to tell!!!

You'd have to ask the writers or designers what they meant by it! (I'm not sure who was writing the art descriptions for that set, so I can't direct you more specifically, I'm afraid!).

Right, i forgot that you have to adjust to what they ask for... Hey, but sometimes must be cool when they leave some areas of description empty, is your complete choice, there is where you are free to put your mark without geting away from the stereotypes of the culture, clan, etc. Please, if you don't undestand something let me now, i'm from Argentina and i don't know if my English sucks or not... :D Please check this piece and let me know what you think [link]
