Created for Alderac Entertainment Group. (C) AEG 2006. For the Legend of the Five Rings trading card game. Media is actually somewhat mixed... I'm never sure what category to put it in, but I use airbrush, colored pencils and acrylic paint on Letramax 6000 board. She's a Scorpion Clan courtier. And she really ought to be wearing a proper mask instead of just makeup, oh, well... The Scorpion Clan wear dark red and black and tend to be quite Devious in their loyalty to the Empire, so I might as well post them here! ... Oh, and the category is fantasy since it's a fantasy card game... even though it draws from historical Japan and Asia...(there's magic-users and mythical critters in the game, just not in this picture!) I've been tending to put my digital paintings and BJD photos up here, but might as well put some of the traditional stuff, too...
Love the hair and the outfit. Brilliant!
April, this cousin from mi clan is awesome ! She's leaving the place but take a look back before she cross the door... By the cloths she wears and the family she belongs i can imagine what messy situation is leaving behind... that is my impression, i can be wrong...
I find that in stunning works like this, I pay attention most to the easily-overlooked details that I can only imagine how long it took to create. in other words, i love her fan.
She is pretty sweet! SHe has much more Japanese feel to her, something I really like.
AKA Doji Hajime
AKA Doji Hajime
I'm glad she doesn't have on a mask, because I love how you did the face.
It's not so close to basic Maru, but I like the picture a lot, because it make the character very traditional. Amazing colours!!!
Sometimes it is hard to keep the character looking the same when another artist has done it before. That's why they try to keep the same artist doing the same characters--but it is not always possible. I'm glad you like her being traditional in her style.
Beautiful. And I love how you framed the figure.
She's beautiful. The rich colors really make the piece.
This is lovely, and portrays the character so well. I especially love her hair-piece. As a player of the RPG, I'm pretty sure that for some samurai, make-up can be used as a mask (similar to the Kuni) so I think it works... Very well done.
Many artists have portrayed Scorpions with just makeup before... The creative team sometimes prefers masks and sometimes allows just makeup... And some artists have their own preferences, too. I think makeup gives more choices to the artist... but I also like the idea of proper maks. I think the basic art for the character didn't have her in an obvious mask, so I just went with that...
She is fantastic - esp. her expression!
